Description

This beautifully unique piece of history with good playability and the authentic manouche gypsy jazz sound.

It was made in 1931 at the lutherie of Laberte et Magnié in Mirecourt, France. Even though they are most famous for their violins, they also made several decent guitars for folk, and a very unique limited batch of manouche jazz guitars. The design seems to be inspired by or a collaboration with Henri Miller, considering they were both from Mirrecourt. 1931 means they predate Selmer-Macaferri guitars by just a few years, but sound exactly like them.

For a guitar of this age, its appearance is in charmingly good condition and it plays buttery smooth with a good neck and decent action for this type of guitar, considering its age and construction, at around 3 mm at the 12th fret. Everything is original apart from the tuners, which have been recently replaced by an experienced luthier specialised in vintage jazz guitars. The new tuners are definitely an upgrade and are visually similar to the original mechanics.

This is a guitar with historical value that can be for both collectors and serious players who just want an authentic gypsy jazz sound.

The shipping charges are estimates and will calculated specific to your location and include insurance. The guitar will be shipped in a hard case, which is included in the price.
