Description
This frequency converter for single-phase motors on a single-phase 230 volt network is suitable for both DIN rail mounting and wall mounting. The device ensures reliable and intelligent start-up of the motor. With this frequency converter you can control both the speed of fans and pumps. The maximum motor current is 10.5 A.
Only a few basic parameters need to be set, and yet this device offers many possibilities. The motor speed can be controlled manually via the intuitive keypad or by a control signal on the inputs. For example, you could allow a 0-10 volt signal from a sensor or a potentiometer to arrive. The integrated EMC filter is of class C1.

A variable speed controller only controls the motor voltage. A frequency converter controls the motor frequency in addition to the motor voltage. On the one hand, there is the advantage of optimum motor control and more energy-efficient operation . On the other hand, there are the higher costs and the need to set some necessary parameters before commissioning. The fact that the motor voltage and motor frequency can be controlled provides additional control options and therefore additional parameters. In order to make the device as user-friendly as possible, application macro functions have been created. The most important settings are grouped into the 14 basic parameters; these can be found on the help card on the housing.Kick-start acceleration of single-phase motors
This frequency converter controls permanent split-capacitor or split-pole single-phase induction motors. It requires a single-phase supply voltage (110 – 240 VAC) and is designed for applications where high starting torque is not required. Typical applications are fans, blowers, centrifugal pumps (swimming pools), smoke extractors, air flow controllers, etc. This frequency converter uses a revolutionary motor control strategy to achieve reliable, intelligent starting of single-phase motors . In order to ensure reliable starting of single-phase motors, the frequency converter first accelerates the motor voltage to the rated voltage while maintaining a fixed starting frequency, before reducing the frequency and voltage to the desired operating point. This acceleration method can be compared with kick-start acceleration. Single-phase motors can only be driven in one direction of rotation.
IP20 housing for DIN rail or surface mounting
The housing is made of high-quality plastic. The design allows the device to be installed on a DIN rail or on a flat surface. The housing offers an IP20 degree of protection against the ingress of dirt and moisture. We recommend installing this device in an electrical cabinet and ensuring that the ambient temperature remains within the range of -10 - 40 °C.An application example
This application example explains how to control the fan speed. T1 is for the 24V supply to T2 and T4. The left contact (T2) starts/stops the fan. When the right contact (T4) is closed, the fan runs at the predefined fixed speed (adjustable in parameter 20). When the right contact is open, the fan speed can be selected manually via a 10K potentiometer or controlled on demand via an HVAC sensor (0-10 Volt signal). The wiring diagram on the right shows the connection of a 10K potentiometer. T5 is for the 10V supply if a 10K potentiometer is connected, while T6 and T7 can be used to select the fan speed via an analog signal. After the wiring is completed, enter the specifications of the connected motor in parameter 1 – 10. The motor can now be started!Pulse width modulation
Frequency converters control the motor voltage and motor frequency using a technology called pulse width modulation . This technology converts the supplied alternating current into direct current. A frequency converter has a DC bus, which can be seen as a buffer tank for the available energy. This buffer tank is filled by both the supply voltage (via the rectifier) and by regenerative energy from the motor that flows back during braking. This direct current is converted back into a type of alternating current by IGBTs. IGBTs or Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors are bipolar transistors with an insulated gate connection that can switch high electrical current at high speed. Thanks to the intelligent control of the IGBTs, both the motor voltage and the motor frequency can be controlled. This enables optimum motor control and energy-efficient operation.Standard built-in EMC filter class C1
A disadvantage of high-frequency switching IGBTs is the fact that they pollute the electricity grid with higher harmonic interference signals (EMC pollution). In order to minimize this network pollution, an EMC filter class C1 is built in as standard. This frequency converter is also equipped with an integrated brake chopper. This makes it possible to connect a brake resistor to shorten the delay time if necessary. Sentera HVAC sensors can be connected via the analog input or via Modbus RTU communication.
