As Senior Core Developer I helped the team greatly improve the performance of an existing PHP based transaction processing system. This backend system handles travel transactions for Dutch Public Transport Cards. Due to a multiplication of the number of customers the system would have been too slow to handle all transactions each day. By introducing parallel transaction processing using RabbitMQ the performance increased by 500%. We designed a new microservice software architecture to be able to connect more suppliers and service providers in shorter time.
Later during the project we redesigned the system architecture to a microservice architecture. The microservices are coupled using RabbitMQ in a message bus configuration.

I Finished my bachelor in software engineering (HTS Den haag, Netherlands) in 1993 and started to work with a small software company. I grew within the company from programmer to project lead to team lead. When the company was taken over I switched jobs to the Dutch television company Endemol. I was a team lead there for two years. After that I started my own company The Motion Studio multimedia productions in 2003.

During the last 11 years I have been a software engineer (C++, Java and PHP) and coached teams to write better code and do better project management. The last 8 years I have moved my focus to PHP. I have been training experienced programmers how to write Object Oriented code in PHP in the Masterclass PHP course that I deviced. In the Advanced Masterclass PHP course I trained Unit testing, Agile project management (XP) and Zend Framework. Since four years I have been working as a Scrum coach and I have helped implementing Scrum within companies.

I am the author of three books about professional software engineering in PHP. (PHP5 Superboek - 2004, Het complete boek PHP 5 - 2008, Leer jezelf Zend Framework - 2010, Het complete boek PHP 5.3 - 2011).
